It is seven days since I took part in the last performance of “Albert Drive – the Show.” About this time last week I had just arrived at our dressing rooms backstage at the Tramway. We were due on stage in ten minutes time to have our last warm up and run through of the performance with Jess, Tashi and Rachel of Glas(s) Performance – the masterminds behind the devised performance about neighbours on Albert Drive.

Beautiful china
The beautiful china in ‘Everybody’s House’ caught the eye of a friend of mine the other day. She was quite excited about it and thought it all looked lovely and inviting…. very neighbourly.

I’ve been thinking about how little I really notice my surroundings focussed as I am on my life. I am often with small children who seriously take up a lot of vision space! Especially out and about its important to keep them safe when crossing the road and to listen to what they are saying.
Everybody’s House 7/5/13
What a glorious day it has been to out on Albert Drive in Everybody’s House! Jess, Viviane, Nic and I had the pleasure of meeting our neighbours whilst basking in the summer (I think we can confirm its appearance finally!) sun. Thanks for having tea and cake with us! It was very nice to meet you and I hope to meet you all again soon and meet some new neighbours too!
Free wheeling on Albert Drive
Having agreed to come and help post letters through the doors of our neighbours on Albert Drive I volunteered Audrey (4) who brought her bike and so we discovered the twin joys of biking on Albert Drive and stuffing letters through letter boxes.
Photography Training Day!
What an amazing, and informative day. I walked up to the Albert Drive Studios with a slight feeling of uncertainty as photography has not been my strongest point but was quickly put as ease with Arpita and the team! I met some of my fellow creative volunteers that I haven’t met before, so it was great catching up about the project. We all were asked to bring a photo we liked, and it was really interesting to hear the stories behind the lens, from family photos to artists work. We then got comfortable with our equipment, with some of the volunteers bringing our own and (which really benefited me) we got to terms with the scary manual mode on our cameras! It’s something I’ve been meaning to get round to learning and using, and Arpita was great and informative about some new techniques. After a slide show of some photography through the years, and learning about different exposure and light settings, we were given tasks around the Albert Drive Studios and drive to find some shots for the project. After some time walking around the studios, and around the drive we all came back to have some tea and discuss our photos. It was great to see everyone’s improvement from the beginning of the day to the end, and noticing some great frames and understanding how the shot was taken. I’ve added one of my shots from the day to this post, and would like to thank especially Arpita, Abigail and Viv for having us round.

Varnishing Day!
I came to the studios today to help with the invitation letters for the Drive to discover… they were delivered! Well done guys, really impressed ! Instead today Viviane and myself did some varnishing for new boards going up on the Drive.
The dream team hits Albert Drive
Had a great afternoon yesterday with Rachel and Viviane. What a gorgeous, crisp and sunny day it was! I met the girls at Albert Drive studios and had a wee conflab over what was to be done. Just reading over the letters from our neighbours was pretty inspiring and began to see how much potential this part of the process actually could have.
Filming with Bash
Last week, I met up with Bash at the Tramway for a catch-up and trying to make a very rough filming schedule. After assembling a new rig and doing some techy tasks, we decided to venture out onto Albert Drive. Sam, one of Neighbourhood Watch, joined us on our jaunt.
Putting the letters up!
Hi all! This is my first post as a Creative Volunteer, and I’m really looking forward to the many more posts to follow. I came along with Rachel and Mohammed to help put the first letters up on Albert Drive.
Davinder, Viviane and Ruth meet for tea
Monday night and we sat in Albert Drive Studios learning how to blog with cups of tea and chocolate biscuits. It was cold outside but warm inside as we shared our thoughts about the project and particularly how we might blog as a way of capturing our experiences on the project.
Wind and Snow on Albert Drive
Two pairs of socks, a set of thermal leggings and three jumpers later I was dressed and ready to take on the wind and snow that has arrived on Albert Drive. Today’s job was to document all the ‘Letters to my Neighbour’ that have been attached to lampposts by the project team over the past few weeks.
